NB! EndNote is only available for Faculty at BI Norwegian Business School. Students are advised to use Zotero (see more information English Pages / Norwegian pages).
Installation instructions
Open Word when you have finished the installation. The EndNote 21 tab should now appear in the menu.
It is not recommended to save your EndNote library on a cloud-based service (Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud etc.) or a network disc because the library can be damaged. Clarivate recommends to save the library on a local hard drive (C:\Endnote\[name of your library.enl) and backup the library by syncing it to EndNote Online. It is also recommended to take backups of your library regularly. This can be done on a cloud service.
Read more about this issue.
Read more about EndNote and backup.
Read about how to set up EndNote Sync.
After you have installed EndNote to your computer, open the program.
1. Create a new EndNote library by selecting: File -> New.
2. The default location for your EndNote library is under "My documents", but you may choose to store it somewhere else on your computer, for example C:\Endnote\[name of your library.enl. Also, you may change the name from "My EndNote library" to something else. We recommend that you only have one EndNote library with all your references. See "Create Groups and Smart Groups" to create subsets of your references.
Additional output styles
You can find several output styles available on endnote.com. See if a ready made style is available for the journal you want to publish to.
APA 7th - Norwegian
If you plan to publish in a paper/book which needs the APA-style you can find a Norwegian version of the APA-style and download it from here (bokmål and nynorsk)

How to install output styles
Every EndNote library creates an index of author names, keywords and journal titles and their abbreviations in something called Term List. This index is used to give the correct format of the journal title and author according to the style being used. New entries of authors and journal titles will be created when importing a reference but these may not include the correct title and/or the standard abbreviation of the journal and this is the reason it is recommended to import term lists when creating a new library.
You can import a journal term list to EndNote the following way:
Not all journal titles are included in the standard lists that are available for import. If you find a journal title which is worng or have none or wrong abbreviation you will need to update it manually in the Term List.
Here's a list list from Web of Knowledge with journal titles and abbreviations that can be used to find this information.
