The Library's Pool of Resources for PhD Candidates

Introduction

Ongoing, but a common advice is to get started in an onboarding phase

Mastering academic writing enables you to efficiently communicate your research and position yourself in your academic field. Writing is essential for a researcher. As a PhD candidate you will produce a dissertation (research articles or a monograph) as well as conference papers and more.

Here are some topics within the academic writing process you may find useful to brush up:

  • Getting started with the actual writing process
  • Relating your research to previous research
  • Referencing

  • Word choice

  • Developing good writing habits

Course: Academic writing

Are you relatively new to academic writing, or do you need a brushing-up? We will cover language, structure, and communication – write well and comprehensible
It's important that the content of your dissertation is good, but it doesn't help with good content if the reader doesn't understand what you are writing. Librarian and linguist Kjersti talks about topics such as the choice of words, how to write good paragraphs and how to reach the reader.
This is a lecture, not a course, but there will be time for some questions and discussion.
Course responsible: Kjersti Wictorsen Kola
Where and when: Will be announced on Workplace.
